Parkwood Volunteer Fire Department Cadet Program
(Explorer Post 966)

LIVE THE ADVENTURE

Have you ever watched firefighters fight a fire?

Have you ever seen fire trucks racing to an emergency scene? Have you ever wondered what it's like to actually be part of the excitement?
By joining the Parkwood Volunteer Fire Department Fire-Rescue-EMS Cadet / Explorer Post 966 you will get valuable, hands-on experience with real firefighters.

BE A CADET

Cadets are a group of young men and women who have an interest in the fire-rescue-EMS profession. Cadets experience similar training, duties and actual situations that Parkwood firefighters handle on a daily basis.

LEARN VALUABLE SKILLS

As a Cadet, you will meet weekly at Parkwood's Fire Station #1 located at 1409 Seaton Road in Durham (Tuesdays from 6-8pm). Meetings are conducted in a business like manner with agenda items including new/old business, planning community projects and instruction/training sessions. Fire department personnel offer Cadets training in:

  • Fire Suppression
  • Equipment use and apparatus safety
  • Emergency scene safety
  • First Aid
  • CPR certification
  • Teamwork
  • Leadership Skills

Fire prevention, public education and safety demonstrations are also a valuable part of the community service offered by members of the Cadet / Explorer Post 966.

Cadets are able to participate in the ride along program where they put their skills to work on emergency calls assisting firefighters as part of a team. Saving life and property and helping our community to be a better place to live is always a priority.
